About the artist

Carl is the third of the family's now 4th generation Fine Art business, the David David Gallery in Philadelphia which specializes in original 17th-21st century American & European paintings, watercolors, drawings & sculptures. He is an avid musician, writer, photographer and healer with a passion that is unbridled. With two traditionally published books, "Collecting & Care Of Fine Art" (Crown, NY 1981) & "Bader Field; How My Family Survived Suicide" (Nightengale Press, 2008/2009) and a third nearly finished, "Waking Dreams; The Subtle Reality" his plate is full but his written words and his musical notes persist with a relentless fervor.
Carl David began his foray into music when he was about ten years of age, learning to play classical piano, the unspoken language in his family's home. Having later lost interest in the keys as a teenager, he found a new yearning for the electric guitar and with the help of his father acquired a Gibson ES175-D and then saved for the purchase of a Fender Dual Reverb amp. Taking a few jazz lessons his confidence grew to a level where he joined with a group of fellow musicians and formed his first band; The Sidewinders. Playing rhythm guitar, lead and harmony vocals, he found his niche. The group regularly played fraternity parties, sweet sixteens and then entered into and winning some serious competitions, ultimately recorded their first record at Baker Studios in Camden, New Jersey under the Paramount label. Misguided management and immaturity then caused the band to split and end what would've been a very successful venture. A second group then formed (The Reason Why) but struggled briefly before dissolving because of unsettled personality conflicts.
Decades went by for Carl with the absence of musical performance as his interests became varied and making a real living took front stage until the urge to play the keyboard returned with a vengeance. After much investigation he bought a Korg 01WFD and some speakers, set it up and then just looked at it with a blank stare, wondering what to do next. His hands compelled him to start anew. All of the black & whites were familiar so a chord at a time, notes began to come back and after a very long hiatus, the music came rushing back in a torrent. Soon after the 61 keys ran out of room so a Korg Triton Extreme 88 was harvested with a couple of serious professional speakers and high end headphones. The compositions began to flow and over the next year or so, nearly a dozen ballads were created. "My Love For You" was the first, written for his wife, Arlyn, the love of his life. Professional music producer and good friend Andrew Sordoni III of Chiaroscuro Records thought it worthy of arrangement by Dave Appell of Cameo Parkway and Decca Records. And so it was done, the world renowned musician and legendary arranger worked his magic and the finished version was born.
Today, music is a vital aspect of Carl's life. If you can't find him anywhere, he will be in this home studio with headphones donned voyaging into realms unknown, seeking that next composition that emanates from deep within his soul.
